Spirituality is recognizing that we are all inextricably connected to each other by a power greater than all of us, and that our connection to that power and to one another is grounded in love and compassion.

Change the Inside, Change the Outside
“Peace on Earth” is the prayer of the season. I’ve recently been following the Walking America Couple on social media. Paige and Torin Rouse are on a quest to walk every state in America. They’re walking California at this writing and have logged 12,000 miles across the country. Along the way, they share content about mindfulness and philosophy. That’s part of their mission. They are partially supported through acts of kindness of people they meet along the way who give them a place to sleep, and often, a meal. Following their adventure has helped to shore up my faith in humanity.
One of the Rouse’s mottos is “Change the inside, change the outside.” That’s at the heart of the idea “Let peace begin with me.” It’s a line from the old popular song, “Let There be Peace on Earth.” We have the power to decide who we are going to be no matter what is happening on the outside. And when we choose peace, love, and compassion, it spreads outward like circles from a pebble tossed into a pond. Our inner state, our interior land, is all we truly can control.
So in that spirit, I’ve recorded a 12-minute meditation on loving kindness. In this meditation, we’ll begin by connecting with the love we have for someone in our life, mirror that love to ourself, and then shine it outward in an ever-expanding circle.
Food for thought from Paige and Torin: If we are truly one, then there is no separation between us, and each of us is a facet of the universe evolving to understand and know itself better. There’s only one of us here. When you look at it that way, it can help us to be less defensive with people who hold a different view point, as it’s all part of this evolving understanding. We’re all from Source, a common root, and this understanding can help us be more compassionate to each other. Let peace begin with me….
A Season of Renewal
I’ll be back with a heart-centered meditation before December 25th. Then I’ll be taking a hiatus the last week of the year and starting 2026 with new meditations to help gradually build your meditation skills and become better acquainted with your interior land. It’s a good time to go back and repeat our earlier meditations. Thanks so much for being here and exploring with me. I appreciate you!
Here’s a link to a recent blog I wrote on rest and renewal in the winter season. It’s soul-care. Enjoy! A Season of Renewal
